Splitting : I am all good or all bad
PROJECTION – attributing your feelings to another person
Projective identification is a term introduced by Melanie Klein to describe the process whereby in a close relationship, as between mother and child, lovers, or therapist and patient, parts of the self may in unconscious fantasy be thought of as being forced into the other person.

RIGHT BRAIN to RIGHT BRAIN communication. What images are you seeing?
( Story of client saying “you look really tired” then tells story of how tired the client is. client is projecting feelings on the therapist)
People peel off the part of themselves they have a hard time with and then “place” them on someone else. What happens is then the feelings they are afraid of are evoked so the person can sort them, feel them and reintegrate.

When talking to someone who is projecting : you are viscerally feeling what the client is feeling now and has felt before.
HOW DO YOU KNOW IF IT IS YOU – or if it is PROJECTION
- you are turned on to the client
you are feeling angry ( are you having a bad day or is this an “alien feeling”
How to be a Space Invader …
what to do when someone is projecting on to you
- Hold it and contain it : use it to get information on the client
- Act it out
- be aware that sometimes people ACT OUT because they have run out of words
